Irreverent Road Ride (IRR 14)

July 19, 2025

14th Edition of IRR

About

Welcome to the Irreverent Road Ride, No BullSh**T, the country’s single most challenging dirt road ride.

IRR is entering its 14 edition and is still NOT A RACE

Train as much as possible because you’re probably not ready for what lies ahead.

If you show up expecting coffee (well, we will have coffee, we're not that mean), restrooms (in the form of indoor plumbing, we will have portapotties, we believe in Leave No trace), a big meal after your ride, and someone to catch your bike when you “finish,” this ain’t the ride for you. If you want to come to VT and ride some absurd terrain with a great bunch of like-minded people, stop for ice cream(s), and maybe jump in a super cold swimming hole, then right this way.

This year's route is still TBD, but rest assured it will never be a repeat of the previous one.

The route could include Vermont maple syrup, covered bridges, floating bridges, farms, swimming holes, questionable roads, questionable double tracks, questionable decisions, ice cream, Easter eggs, and excellent awesome fun and camaraderie. If you want, this is a ride to tell your grandkids, friends, and social media followers about it.

At its core, this ride will be Pure Vermont Gravel.

We can’t stress enough that this is the hardest dirt road event/ride you will attempt.

Included in Registration

  • Access to Ride With GPS maps
  • GPX file download of full IRR
  • Easter eggs along the route, including Red Bulls, $14 cash to one lucky rider
  •  Roaming fill stations and possibly some words of encouragement
  • The best time on two wheels this side of anywhere.
  •  And more… need to attend to find out.

Here is what you CAN Expect for your registration fee

  • The ride starts at 8:00 am
  • You will receive coordinates by 7/7/25
    • Asking for it beforehand incurs a 30-minute time penalty
  • The official route could include stores/water stops, business hours, swimming holes, shortcuts, ice cream stands, and everything else you need to know to make the most of your day here in Vermont. (remember, it’s a RIDE, NOT A RACE)
  • The ride will take approximately 15+ hours to complete
  • You NEED to finish before 11:59 pm on 7/19/2025 to be considered “finishing.”
  • The terrain will be challenging to the fullest extent of the word
  • This is intended to be a self-supported ride
  • Two “planned” water drops and aid stations may have minimal provisions
    • DO NOT plan solely on them
  • Be prepared to ride 3 hours between water sources. Vermont is graced with many general stores, remote gas stations, and friendly neighbors.
  • We welcome anyone who wants to attempt to finish IRR. You have to do it on our terms, though :-)
  • Believe the hype; It’s not #hype.
  • Every bike is the wrong bike. So bring the one with the lowest gearing that you will be happy riding all day.

The field is limited to 150 riders due to insurance constraints.

Equipment Suggestions:

  • Cyclocross/gravel/big tired road bike
  • 28mm tires or bigger (trust us)
  • Recommended gearing 34x28 or lower. Your quads and back will thank you, just a little.
  • Mountain bike pedals and shoes (you will walk at some point; everyone does, even us)
  • Rain/wind jacket. It’s New England. The weather changes every second here
  • Lights - strongly recommend if you plan on attempting to complete IRR before the cutoff
  • For those that finish, the avg is 12hrs, and the longest it has taken someone to complete the route is 17.5 hours.

Still not sure if this event is for you. Take a few minutes and enjoy this video of IRR 3.0

Lodging Recommendations

  • Check Airbnb for places around Hinesburg, Vermont.
  • Camping is available this year at the venue

Fine Print:

If this is your first time attending IRR, we pull no punches. This is, hands down, unquestionably the most challenging single-day (or two) bike ride in America. People finish Unbound 200 faster than IRR. The finisher rate hovers around 12% each year (except that one year….) The roads are questionable at times and lost completely at others. The ride will demand endurance in its truest form and mental fortitude that is impossible to replicate in another setting. There is little to no support on the course. There is no finishers medal, official timing (just what you want to upload to RWGPS/STRAVA/Wahoo, etc.), or much glam to IRR. So set your expectations accordingly and look inside yourself to see what you are truly capable of. The day will be easier with the company of a friend or two or more.

This event has a worry-free registration, meaning no refunds will be provided should you not make it.
